Automotive Mechanic

About the role

The Department of Transportation is seeking an Automotive Mechanic to support transportation services throughout Delaware County. This role involves maintaining and repairing various vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools to ensure they are in top condition.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance Work: Perform preventive care and repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment.
• System Repairs: Work on electrical, cooling, suspension, driveline, fuel, brake, heating, and air conditioning systems.
• Safety Inspections: Complete official state safety and emissions inspections and document all related records.
• Field Service: Respond to emergency service needs and conduct repairs or adjustments outside the garage when necessary.
• Equipment Records: Maintain accurate equipment maintenance logs and support environmental and safety requirements.
• Technical Support: Demonstrate repair techniques, assist other mechanics, and help secure proper parts and supplies.

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Special Requirements: Valid driver's license and Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent.
• Additional Requirements: Mechanics toolbox, refrigerant recycling certificates, ability to perform essential job functions.

Benefits

Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,819.00 (before taxes).

Schedule

Full-time employment with work hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements.
