The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking an Automotive Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles, tools, and construction equipment in Potter County. This role supports transportation operations by ensuring equipment remains reliable and ready for service.
About the role
This position involves maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, tools, and construction equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled maintenance on cars, trucks, tractors, construction equipment, and powered hand tools
- Carry out routine services such as oil changes, diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and system repairs
- Complete official state safety and emissions inspections and document required records
- Conduct emergency repairs and make necessary adjustments at garage or field locations
- Maintain detailed documentation of repairs, parts used, and conditions of equipment
- Obtain needed parts and provide accurate information for proper equipment purchases
Schedule
- Full-time employment
- Work hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
- Hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs
- No telework option available
Pay
Starting annual salary: $49,819.00 (before taxes) for new employees of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Requirements
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Qualifications
- Current and valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- Valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles
- Ability to perform essential job functions
