Automotive Mechanic

About the role

A vacancy exists in the Office of Budget and Finance, Vehicle Operations and Maintenance Division.

Responsibilities

• Performs a full range of skilled diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on automobiles, light trucks, and related equipment.
• Scheduled automotive preventive maintenance and service, such as engine oil and filter changes, chassis lubrications, engine tune-ups, and the replacement of tires, batteries, belts, hoses, and lights.
• Diagnoses automotive malfunctions.
• Inspects, adjusts, repairs, and replaces various automotive components and systems such as brakes, ignitions, exhaust systems, and suspensions.
• Repairs and replaces starters, alternators, generators, and other electronic automotive components.
• Repairs automotive air conditioning, heating, and cooling systems.
• Performs front end alignments.
• Prepares new vehicles for police service by installing specialized equipment such as cages, overhead lights, gun racks, and identification decals.
• Operates equipment to tow disabled vehicles to the shop.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Three years' automotive repair and maintenance experience. (Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
• Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial class C, Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver's license and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
