Automotive Journeyman Technician Full Time

Chevrolet of Naperville is looking for a dedicated Automotive Journeyman Technician to join our team in a non-union environment. This role is ideal for lead aftermarket technicians seeking career advancement or experienced dealership technicians who want recognition for their advanced skills.

Responsibilities

• Repair and overhaul automobiles, vans, trucks, and other automotive vehicles in accordance with Dealership and factory standards.
• Remove, disassemble, inspect, repair, and replace units such as engines, transmissions, and differentials.
• Overhaul or replace fuel system components, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
• Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
• Realign and adjust brakes, align front ends, and repair or replace shock absorbers.
• Replace and adjust headlights and install and repair accessories.
• Examine and diagnose vehicle malfunctions; discuss findings with customers, service advisors, or management.
• Communicate with the parts department to obtain necessary parts; save and tag parts if under warranty or requested by the customer.
• Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
• Road test vehicles as necessary before and/or after repair.
• Supervise apprentice technicians as assigned.
• Properly utilize all personal protective equipment.
• Attend required meetings and training.
• Work cooperatively and professionally with all personnel; maintain a courteous demeanor with customers and the public.
• Maintain required certifications and report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisors.
• Keep customers' vehicles clean and maintain a neat shop area.
• Maintain dealership-owned tools and manuals.
• Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA standards.

Requirements

• Strong experience in Electrical & Engine Performance Diagnostics.
• Well-rounded knowledge of steering, brakes, engine mechanical, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to repair vehicles correctly the first time.
• GM Experience & Training preferred.
• Experience and training in diesel repairs and Advanced Technology Hybrids/Electric cars is helpful.
• 4+ years of successful experience as an automotive technician.
• Ability to read English, perform basic mathematical calculations, and comprehend instructions.
• Valid in-state driver’s license with a driving history adequate for dealership insurance.
• Minimum of 3+ ASE Certifications.
• Knowledge of automobiles and their working components; ability to diagnose and repair vehicles.
• Effective analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to learn new technology, procedures, and specifications.
• Ability to drive automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
• Physical ability to operate job-related equipment, lift/push/pull 25 lbs. or greater, stand for long periods, and bend/stretch/reach as needed.
• Ability to operate a PC and dealership software programs.

Pay

$25–$59 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time: 4 weekdays (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM) and Saturdays (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
