Automotive Diagnostic Technician

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on commercial and medium-duty vehicles, including engines, brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, starters, alternators, transmissions, and more.
  • Perform on-site diagnostic inspections to identify, mechanical, electrical, and drivability issues on commercial and medium-duty vehicles.
  • Use scan tools, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment to test vehicle systems and verify faults.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, service information, and manufacturer procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair basic and intermediate electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, and related components.
  • Identify issues involving power, ground, reference, and signal circuits, including two-wire and four-wire system configurations.
  • Perform repairs and replacements on defective wiring, connectors, sensors, and electrical components.
  • Verify repairs through retesting, road testing when appropriate, and confirmation of proper system operation.
  • Document findings, repairs performed, recommended services, and parts required.
  • Communicate diagnostic results and repair recommendations clearly to service advisors and management.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and follow shop safety procedures.
  • Deliver exceptional service by resolving on-site issues efficiently, professionally, and with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and maintain a mobile service vehicle stocked with necessary tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Document all services performed, parts used, and customer interactions accurately using Shop Monkey.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment for both the technician and customers.
  • Work independently while staying connected to a supportive team for guidance, escalation, and resource coordination.

Qualifications

  • Two years of mechanical automotive experience required with a strong background with medium-duty vehicles, particularly Freightliner, Ford Transit, and Dodge ProMaster.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Toolbox with essential tools.
  • Valid automotive technician certification (e.g., ASE certification) or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a mobile automotive service role.
  • One year of electrical repair experience.
