Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Examine vehicles and plan work procedure
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and other problems on all district vehicles
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, differentials, suspensions, drive shafts, and other related units
- Raise vehicles with air, hydraulic jack or hoist to gain access to mechanical units
- Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear
- Adjust, repair or replace brake shoes, pads and hydraulic brake system components
- Repair or replace heating and cooling system components: radiators, heater cores and hoses
- Perform major and minor tune ups
- Perform major and minor body work
- Perform general and preventive maintenance
- Visual inspections and reporting of any needed repairs
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area
Skills and Abilities Required
- Provide Criminal History background check and fingerprinting
- High School Transcript, General Education Degree (GED) or DD214
- A valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver’s license with Passenger endorsement
- Five years of automotive/mechanical repair experience and/or appropriate certificate indicating formal automotive/mechanical repair training and schooling
- Success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency of automotive and mechanical repair
- Establish and maintain records required in the Transportation Department
- Complete tasks quickly, efficiently and independently
- Establish and maintain records required in the Transportation Department
- Be able to follow instructions and follow through on assignments
- Self-motivated, able to work on several projects concomitantly
- Exercise initiative and sound judgment
- React resourcefully to varying conditions
- Cooperate in a team effort
- Obtain and maintain vehicle state inspector certification
- Mathematical Skills: Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Compute rate, ratio and percent.
- Reasoning Abilities: Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Working Conditions
- Regularly stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hand and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Regularly works in outside weather conditions
- Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
- Work near moving mechanical parts
- Work in high, precarious places
- Occasionally exposed to noise levels in the work environment
