Automations Controls Engineer

About the role

Materion Corporation is seeking an Automations Controls Engineer to design, program, and optimize automation and control systems for advanced materials manufacturing operations. In this role, you will develop PLC and HMI solutions, integrate sensors and motion control, and support commissioning of new and upgraded production equipment. You will troubleshoot controls issues, improve safety, quality, and throughput, and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams. This position supports global customers and critical technologies in aerospace, electronics, and energy within a continuous improvement culture.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and maintain PLC and HMI/SCADA systems for manufacturing equipment
• Commission, test, and validate new and upgraded automation and control systems
• Troubleshoot and resolve controls and electrical issues to minimize downtime
• Integrate sensors, drives, and motion control components into production lines
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams on process improvements
• Implement and support safety systems and standards in automated equipment
• Analyze production data to improve equipment reliability, quality, and throughput
• Develop and maintain documentation, including electrical schematics and control logic
