Automation Technician

About the role

The Automation Technician will maintain and troubleshoot automated systems and equipment within our manufacturing plant, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency of production processes.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and software issues in automated systems.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize automation processes.
• Maintain automated machinery and control systems.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on automated equipment.
• Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of repairs and modifications.
• Train and support production staff on the operation of automated systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all automation activities.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in automation technology.
• Actively support production, resolving issues as they arise, to minimize downtime.
• Support the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
• Assist with development of specifications, new tools, processes, and training procedures.
• Utilize disciplined problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints, and develop permanent corrective actions.
• Champion scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility.
• Support, contribute, and demonstrate lean manufacturing principles in work area.
• Continuously work toward achieving goals and measurables of the facility.
• Comply with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, and IATF 16949, including safety and environmental guidelines.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as an Automation Technician or similar role in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive industry.
• Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and control systems.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical manuals.
• Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.

Work Environment

• Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on the manufacturing floor.
• Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury.
