Cardinal Staffing Services is hiring an experienced Automation Technician for a union automotive manufacturing facility located in Warren, MI.

About the role

Oversee all activities related to process controls, maintenance, manufacturing, installation, support, documentation, and testing of equipment including robotics, assembly, on-line fixtures, conveyor systems, and more.

Schedule: B Shift – Wednesday to Saturday, 4:30 pm – 3:00 am. Contract-to-hire in 90 days with pay increases upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Automation Engineers to ensure existing equipment runs according to specifications, including troubleshooting, debugging, start-up, and programming of automated equipment and upgrades.
  • Serve as technical expert for electrical circuits, program logic controls, robot programming, vision inspection, and automation.
  • Coordinate the development, writing, and maintenance of effective maintenance specifications and preventative maintenance programs for all equipment to ensure top performance.
  • Participate with the automation team in designing automated machines, equipment, systems, devices, and fixtures to support assembly requirements.
  • Recommend equipment improvements and/or manufacturing methods.
  • Support and assist maintenance personnel with diagnosing software and electrical system problems.
  • Support Maintenance with equipment repairs in the event of failure.
  • Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering to establish optimized performance of all equipment.
  • Assist Automation Engineers in executing Engineering Change Requests (ECR) for appropriate equipment changes.
  • Execute continuous improvement strategies to reduce scrap cost and improve productivity and quality.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of all new program launches, including supporting pilot build activities as needed.
  • Assist in determining resolutions to customer issues through process and design changes related to equipment.
  • Assist in the implementation of TS16949 objectives.
  • Support cost savings activities, including problem-solving, cost-saving analysis, root cause analysis, capital payback analysis, process manufacturing analysis, and lean manufacturing VE/VA analysis.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or related field and 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with automated equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with PLC programming.
  • Experience in AutoCAD.
  • Solid understanding of principles used in multi-axis robotic systems and conveyor transport systems.
  • Strong “hands-on” capability in the installation and programming of robotic and PLC control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; customer-focused.
  • Understanding of manufacturing, assembly, sequencing, and equipment principles.

Pay

Starting at $32 an hour.
