Automation Technician

About the role

This role will maintain highly specialized, robotic-controlled, automated fastening machines that assemble aircraft at the Boeing South Carolina facility in North Charleston, SC. Broetje is the OEM responsible for all maintenance of this equipment.

Schedule

• 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
• 2nd Shift: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM
• 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM - 6:00 AM

$1.75 per hour shift differential for 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and weekends. Overtime available.

Pay

Hourly Range: $30.00–44.00/hr, plus overtime and shift differential.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Technical Certificate or Associate/BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Industrial Engineering, or Mechatronics
• 3+ years of experience within the industrial automation industry or equivalent machine tool maintenance experience
• 3+ years of experience with Siemens Step 7 PLC troubleshooting and Siemens 840D series CNC troubleshooting (PLC programming experience preferred)
• NEC Certification
• Ability to work weekends (overtime)
• Experience with aerial platforms and working at heights
• Ability to lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 40 lbs
• Ability to stand, walk for extended periods, and repetitively climb stairs in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications

• Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, machine/motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, programming, and system integration
• Extensive experience in IEC61131 (PLC programming languages)
• CNC troubleshooting experience
• Thorough knowledge of NC Controllers: Siemens 840D or WINCC
• Experienced in troubleshooting electrical control panels
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with teams, clients, and vendors
• Confidence communicating with customers from management to maintenance technicians
• Ability to analyze and diagnose automation problems
• Experience using precision measurement equipment (e.g., dial indicators, calipers)

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical and controls engineering expertise in support of new equipment and system introductions
• Serve as internal subject matter expert in control systems (Siemens PLC, HMI, Motion Control Systems), system integration, sensors, and electromechanical devices
• Apply knowledge of electronics, electrical circuits, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and programming
• Travel to customer sites for machine commissioning and troubleshooting support
• Maintain logs and written records of duties performed
