Automation Technician
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and commission PLC-based control systems.
- Diagnose HVAC issues and modify control programs.
- Create system dashboards and design automation system graphics.
- Commission microprocessor-based controls, including DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and transducers.
- Verify wiring for grounding, polarity, communication, and power.
- Calibrate input/output devices such as temperature sensors and pressure transducers.
- Upload, download, and modify control programs.
- Configure BACnet networks, including IP, subnet, MAC, and instance numbers.
- Troubleshoot PLC systems and diagnose control logic issues.
- Modify and debug ladder logic, structured text, and function block programming.
- Map control points to supervisory controllers, add alarms, and history.
- Link control points to graphics and dashboards.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in troubleshooting electrical systems and sensors.
- Strong PLC troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with microprocessor-based controls.
- Ability to work independently on construction sites.
- Associate's degree in Electronics, Technology, or Automation.
Qualifications
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Experience with Microsoft Products.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL or other database applications.
Work Environment
The work environment involves a mix of office settings and fieldwork. Expect extended periods of desk work with computer-based tasks. There are frequent visits to local construction job sites with significant client interaction, requiring 30-50% travel (anticipated to be under 20% with several months' notice).
