About the role

The Automation Supervisor position is located on-site at our Boardman, Oregon facility. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth operation of the plant's industrial controls, automation, and process equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, installs, and programs all aspects of plant PLC/HMI and SCADA systems to maintain and improve machine and equipment control.
  • Maintains control system documentation and upgrades and maintains software tools and applications.
  • Collaborates with Information Technology to integrate PLC, WonderWare, and other systems (Ignition).
  • Aligns information in enterprise resource planning (ERP) system with actual process on the work floor.
  • Oversees and maintains PLC and HMI network systems, and collaborates with IT to manage PLC and HMI communications across company Ethernet/fiber optic network.
  • Trains select maintenance technicians in plant PLC systems to aid in troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Designs and implements small capital improvements to PLC and HMI systems; assists in planning and implementing long-range facility/process expansions.
  • Oversees integration of new capital equipment purchases with existing plant control systems.
  • Manages selected capital projects, as directed by Automation Manager.
  • Guides/directs the work of outside PLC and controls contractors.
  • Oversees and/or sets up and installs instruments and control system components.
  • Provides technical support to plant manufacturing operations, solving problems in plant control systems and plant operations, including upgrading and retrofitting equipment and facilities.
  • Aids in installation of new equipment by taking the lead in control system aspects of installation.
  • Trains engineering and production employees on existing and new processes.
  • Coordinates with automation manager to plan, deliver, and document training.
  • Assists in development of training materials.
  • Presents training materials in one-on-one and group settings.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in food or beverage manufacturing environment, including hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Experience providing PLC & HMI programming, hardware installation, and software installation.
  • Experience performing instrument and control loop tuning and calibration.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC control systems and WonderWare & Ignition SCADA systems.
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, CMMS, and calibration management systems strongly desired.

Qualifications

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and SQL.
  • Team player and able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
  • Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Sound troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to self-teach in areas of deficiency.
