Automation Principal Technician

Requirements

MOS Code: 51R (Army) V03B (Navy)

Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED or higher, and five (5) years of experience in the electronics technology field, diagnosing and repairing process control equipment and instruments, including one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Program network devices within El Paso Water’s SCADA network.
• Perform programming of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using FactoryTalk View Studio, RS Logix/Studio 5000, or similar software, utilizing Relay Ladder Logic and Function Block programs.
• Install HMI software and configure SCADA servers and computer workstations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve SCADA system and network malfunctions.
• Assist with the design and building of automated systems.
• Work with engineers on projects related to El Paso Water’s automated process systems.
• Keep accurate logs of SCADA equipment upgrades, modifications, and repairs.
• Use the Computerized Asset Management System for maintaining records of assets.
• Provide detailed information on Field Management Systems work orders and tasks for preventative and demand maintenance.
• Maintain a historical tag database of operational parameter data.
• Maintain automated daily and monthly reports and prepare unscheduled reports based on historical operational parameter data.
• Maintain and update files, records, reports, and logs.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned vehicle, tools, and work areas.
• Observe standard operating procedures and safety practices.
• Conduct training and mentor technicians on advanced troubleshooting procedures, safety protocols, and emerging technologies.
• Assist in the development and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety practices related to instrumentation and control systems.
• Supervise assigned staff, including scheduling assignments, instructing, guiding, and checking work.
• Appraise employee performance and review evaluations by subordinates.
• Provide training and development; enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially.
• Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony.
• Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations.
