About the role
The Automation Project Manager will conduct and coordinate automation duties on assigned projects, maintain project schedules, and harmonize efforts with the project team. They will assist the sales team on potential future projects and determine project scope and specifications to achieve customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Manage sub-contract resource/cost and ensure compliance with all project-specific guidelines and schedules.
- Develop relationships with customers, vendors, and contractors to meet project specifics.
- Continually monitor assigned project staffing requirements, adding or removing personnel as needed.
- Deliberate with management, sales, project managers, and engineering staff on project requirements and procedures.
- Evolve working practices to improve efficiency and productivity for projects.
- Incorporate customer hardware/software design specifications and implement them within the project, including PLC software, SCADA configuration, factory and site-based testing, production of test documentation, and on-site commissioning.
- Engineer and design electrical control panels per UL508A utilizing AutoCAD Electrical.
- Contribute to the development of relevant working procedures, templates, and standards.
- Procure components to maintain project deadlines.
- Assist with on-site I/O testing, contractor management, customer training, and commissioning.
- Participate in and contribute technically to customer and sales meetings.
- Manage overall cost on the electrical/controls portion of the project.
- Ensure the success of the electrical/controls portion of the overall project.
Requirements
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in Electrical/Automation/Instrumentation Engineering or related fields with 5+ years of job experience.
- Excellent communication skills for managing the control portion of projects and consulting with customers.
- Strong critical thinking and logic skills to identify weaknesses and strengths of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues in a timely manner.
- Excellent organizational skills to instruct and direct contractors and identify details in project scope.
Working Relationships
The Automation Project Manager will work under the Automation Manager and maintain good relationships with fellow workers, vendors, manufacturers, and the general public. They will participate in meetings, seminars, and training as required.
