Automation Engineer II is responsible for the design, development, implementation, validation, and support of automated manufacturing equipment and processes. This position works closely with project managers, manufacturing, quality, operations, and external suppliers to deliver automation solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance. The Automation Engineer II serves as a technical resource for automation projects and provides hands-on support for equipment troubleshooting, continuous improvement initiatives, and new product introductions (NPI). This role includes responsibility for equipment validation activities, system integration, and technical documentation. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Design and develop automated manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and production systems. Review and interpret product requirements, specifications, and manufacturing needs to develop effective automation solutions. Generate mechanical, electrical, and process documentation, including design drawings, operating manuals, and installation instructions. Execute equipment validation activities, including IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems, robots, vision systems, controls, and production equipment. Support commissioning, startup, and qualification of new manufacturing equipment. Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve process capability and equipment performance. Integrate vision systems, sensors, motion control devices, and PLC-based control systems. Analyze production data and identify opportunities for process optimization and waste reduction. Manage multiple automation projects while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and budget requirements. Coordinate with external equipment builders, suppliers, and contractors to ensure adherence to design and performance requirements. Provide technical training and support to operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in automation, manufacturing engineering, controls engineering, or a related technical discipline. Experience in automated assembly systems and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of equipment validation requirements, including IQ, OQ, and PQ methodologies. Experience troubleshooting automated production equipment and integrated manufacturing systems. Strong project management and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent). Experience with HMI, SCADA, motion control, and industrial networking. Experience integrating machine vision systems. Knowledge of robotics platforms such as FANUC, ABB, Universal Robots, or Epson. Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Experience in medical devices, pharmaceutical, consumer products, or high-volume manufacturing environments.
