About the role
As a Controls Engineer II, you will design, implement, and maintain control systems for integrated packaging machinery and robotics. This role involves both hands-on engineering work and leadership responsibilities, including supervising subcontractors and improving product lines.
Responsibilities
- Create new programs for machines and complete integrated systems
- Assist Checkout Technicians with factory testing
- Organize and maintain updated libraries of all PLC programs, robot programs, and auxiliary device files and templates
- Design and implement hardware and software for machinery or integration projects
- Create new controls system designs and evaluate cost alternatives
- Act as an advocate for integrated packaging line functionality and project management
- Supervise subcontractor vendors
- Review and troubleshoot customer field issues, recommending viable solutions
- Work on projects to improve speed, capacity, reliability, functionality, and ease of operation
- Assist the Service Department with troubleshooting machines via telephone or on-site
- Ensure programs follow Delkor’s standards for ease of understanding by coworkers and customers
- Create documentation to share knowledge with other Controls Engineers, Checkout, and Service Technicians
- Manage and own a commercialized product line, performing regular updates to maintain current standards
- Identify improvements in code base and share with others to enhance all Delkor product lines
- Follow industry safety standards (OSHA, EU Machinery Directive, local authorities) and drive Safety Risk assessments
- Perform other assigned tasks or duties
Requirements
- Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or two-year degree in Engineering (or equivalent) with 6 years of related experience in Electrical/Controls Engineering
- Experience with AB PLC, HMI, and Servo Control
- Experience with advanced motion development for multi-axis servo-driven robotics
- Experience with Fanuc robot controls (preferred)
- Experience with robotics/vision systems (preferred)
- Experience with SolidWorks or 3D CAD
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical
Skills
- Able to read, understand, analyze, and problem-solve electrical schematics and engineering-related software
- Proficient with standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to tutor and lead others on designs and projects
- High level of inquisitiveness, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) for internal and external collaboration
- Works well with diverse teams and departments

Physical Requirements
- Sit at a desk or in meetings for extended periods, including extensive computer use
- Stand and walk to interact with other employees
- Judge distances and space relationships for detailed activities (e.g., reading schematics, spreadsheets)
- Arm and hand mobility to lift, bend, hold, reach, carry, push, and pull packages or supplies
Work Environment
- 70% of work performed in an office setting (desk/computer work or office table activities)
- 20% of work performed on an assembly floor or at customer sites, with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals, plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises, and production odors
- 15% estimated travel to customer sites
Tools and Equipment
- General office equipment (computer, printer, telephone, fax, copier, email, calculator)
- Basic hand tools (wrenches, pliers, screwdriver, voltmeter, etc.)
Pay
The salary range for this position is $111,000 - $134,000 per year, with eligibility for a $12,000 sign-on bonus.
