Automatic Facility Underwriter

About the role
Under the direction of the assigned manager and in accordance with established Facultative Property procedures, you will underwrite new and renewal commercial Automatic Property Reinsurance Facility business. This role involves representing our company at industry marketing events, developing client relationships to increase market share, and contributing to the efficiency and morale of the underwriting group while delivering quality service to internal and external customers. You will report to the Property Automatic Facultative Division Manager.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and produce automatic property and inland marine agreements.
- Maintain client and broker contacts and relationships.
- Contribute to the hybrid facultative audit process as appropriate.
- Manage travel and expense expenditures in coordination with the Division Manager.
- Develop and contribute to an annual personal performance and development (P&D) plan with Property Fac leadership.
- Support risk division training and new hire onboarding.
- Underwrite terms, conditions, and pricing for new and renewal automatic property facultative business by gathering, reviewing, and analyzing account information.
- Achieve consistent satisfactory internal and external audit results by adhering to underwriting, regulatory, and rating guidelines.
- Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, legal, underwriting service, and claims teams to ensure account profitability.
- Maintain and service a book of business by analyzing special acceptance requests, participating in large loss and customer account team meetings, audits, and providing top-quality customer service to brokers and cedants.
- Participate in strategic planning and business development activities, including identifying key brokers and markets, marketing to external brokers and cedants, and completing action plans from marketing activities.
- Accompany other underwriters on broker or client visits as needed.
- Work effectively in a team setting, contributing to the creation and sustainability of a high-performance team by embracing and understanding team and unit goals.
- Contribute to and implement actions to improve performance and efficiency.
Requirements
- Underwriting experience, preferably in Property and Inland Marine lines.
- Exposure to the insurance industry, with commercial property insurance experience preferred.
- Reinsurance experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of underwriting structures, rating methodologies, and policy rating systems.
- Familiarity with insurance policy language and contract wording.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business systems.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities and capacity to apply analytical and quantitative thinking.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a customer-focused approach.

Pay
The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 91,000 – 123,000. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location.
