About the role

The Automated Maintenance Technician - Multiple Levels is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and setting up moderately complex manufacturing equipment. This position ensures line uptime and productivity by addressing production maintenance demands and implementing solutions to prevent reoccurrence. It also involves participating in the transfer of new production lines and providing input and technical support to new projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
  • May seek advice from more senior team members.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Document maintenance activities and report issues.
  • Participate in simple root cause analysis under supervision.
  • Interpret, follow, and contribute to updates in SOPs, work instructions, and job plans.

Requirements

  • Intermediate mechanical and technical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic schematics and manuals.
  • Familiarity with common maintenance tools and practices.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagram.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of vocational training program or an apprenticeship in skilled trade, automotive, or equivalent required.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, basic electrical/mechanical certification) are a plus.

Skills

Level 2: Maintenance Technician II

Level 3: Maintenance Technician III

  • Independently performs a wide range of maintenance tasks, including work consisting of tasks that are typically not routine.
  • Applies mechanical and electrical knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Implements and improves preventative maintenance programs.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives and proactively proposes solutions.
  • Assists in small-scale capital projects.
  • Conducts intermediate root cause analysis and contributes to problem-solving efforts.
  • Follows SOPs rigorously and assists in their review and improvement.
  • Follows detailed work instructions and job plans for maintenance tasks.

Level 4: Maintenance Technician IV (Senior)

  • Leads maintenance teams for small-scale projects.
  • Develops and implements advanced maintenance strategies.
  • Independently evaluates, recommends enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Evaluates and recommends improvements to maintenance processes.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced technicians.
  • Explains practices, procedures, and policies.
  • Reviews work product.
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and training (technical and operational) to other employees within job area.
  • Led continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Plans and executes small-scale capital projects.
  • Conducts thorough root cause analysis and leads problem-solving efforts.
  • Follows SOPs diligently and contributes to their development and revision.
  • Develops and optimizes detailed work instructions and job plans.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing and laboratory environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 50% of time in meetings, working with team; 50% of the time at the desk on computer, walking, standing, or sitting extended periods of time, doing analytical work are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Position requires use of Personal Protective Equipment as posted. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position is $45,000.00 to $93,000.00 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
