Auto Body Technician - Flat Rate
About the role
The Auto Body Technician at Gerber Collision & Glass is responsible for providing exceptional and successful customer experiences through meticulous vehicle repair. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a technical school program or a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer.
Responsibilities
- Plans and executes repair work according to job orders.
- Prepares cost estimates for customers.
- Uses various tools like cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, hammers, and pliers to repair vehicle sections.
- Hammers out dents and repairs minor body damage.
- Mixes and applies filler resins for dents that cannot be repaired by other means.
- Realigns car chassis and frames for structural damage repairs.
- Removes and replaces damaged vehicle sections with new or aftermarket parts.
- Replaces or repairs glass and windshields as needed.
- Repairs or replaces interior parts as necessary.
- Welds and attaches parts to fit them properly.
- Prepares and repaints vehicles with factory-specified paint or equivalent.
- Attempts to complete work orders within labor time guidelines.
- Inspects vehicles after repair to ensure all work has been executed correctly.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a technical school program or a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer.
- Ability to read job orders and work independently.
- Experience working with other repairers in an auto body shop.
- Thorough understanding of repair methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of using tools required for the trade.
- Physical ability to work safely in a noisy area with odors, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repairs and inspections in various weather conditions.

- Works well with minimal supervision.
- Understands and uses various tools and equipment.
- Can perform visual inspections in different weather conditions.
- Can bend, stretch, kneel, and squat for repairs and inspections.

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with skill, education, and experience. Sign-on bonus opportunities are available for qualified candidates.
