About the role

The Auto Body Technician at Gerber Collision & Glass is responsible for providing exceptional and successful customer experiences through meticulous vehicle repairs. This role requires a thorough understanding of repair methods and tool usage, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute repair work based on job orders, preparing cost estimates for customers.
  • Use various tools like cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, hammers, and pliers to repair vehicle sections.
  • Hammer out dents and dimples, and mix and apply filler resins for dents that cannot be repaired by other means.
  • Realign car chassis and frames to fix structural damage, remove damaged sections, and replace them with new or aftermarket parts.
  • Replace or repair glass and windshields as needed, and prepare and repaint vehicles with factory-specified paint or equivalent.
  • Weld and attach parts as necessary, and ensure all work is completed within labor time guidelines.
  • Inspect vehicles after repair to ensure all work has been executed correctly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a technical school program or a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer.
  • Ability to read job orders and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work with other repairers in an auto body shop.
  • Thorough understanding of repair methods and tool usage.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds, work in a noisy area with odors, and perform tasks requiring bending, stretching, kneeling, and squatting.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to visually inspect vehicle damage in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.

Skills

  • Read and understand job orders.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Thoroughly understand methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies.
  • Thoroughly understand how to use tools required for the trade.

Compensation

Flat rate compensation is a performance-based structure directly tied to booked hours. In the event that total compensation in a pay period is less than the applicable local or state minimum wage, clocked hours will be calculated with a guarantee of the applicable minimum wage, whichever is greater.
