About the Role
The Auto Body Technician will make repairs to metal, plastic, and fiberglass parts of vehicles. Compensation is negotiated based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Plan the repair work necessary using various tools such as cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, hammers, and pliers to repair sections of a vehicle.
- Hammer out dents, dimples, and other minor body damage.
- Mix and apply filler resins to repair dents when other methods are not feasible.
- Realign chassis and frames to repair structural damage and remove damaged sections of the vehicle and replace with new or aftermarket parts.
- Replace or repair glass and windshields as needed.
- Replace or repair interior parts as needed.
- Weld and attach or fit parts into place.
- Prepare and repaint the vehicle with factory‑specified paint or an agreed‑upon equivalent.
- Inspect vehicles after repair to ensure all work has been executed correctly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or a related field.
- 3 years of related experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must supply your own general hand tools.
- Physical ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and safety inspections.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs at times.
Skills
- Ability to read job orders.
- Ability to work with other repairers within the auto body shop.
- Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle body.
- Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade.
