About the role
Under minimal supervision and according to established policies and procedures, this role provides specialized services supporting scheduling operations across multiple clinic settings at Cooper Green. The position combines traditional authorization specialist duties with insurance verification tasks, including handling daily reports, troubleshooting authorization issues, liaising between specialty clinics and primary care providers, scheduling referrals, issuing authorization numbers, and verifying insurance benefits. The role requires outstanding customer service for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information, updating appointment status in NextGen per standards.
- Schedule patient referrals internally and externally, ensuring accuracy and completeness of referral information.
- Obtain precertification through private insurance when applicable.
- Notify patients of copayments required for outside services.
- Verify patient enrollment at Cooper Green and insurance benefits.
- Answer phones, take accurate messages, and route them to the appropriate person promptly.
- Schedule patient appointments with accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with reporting as needed.
- Obtain appointment dates/times for patients referred outside of Cooper Green.
- Ensure information entered into the EMR is complete and accurate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree or relevant coursework may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
- At least one year of experience working in a medical practice setting.
- Professional telephone courtesy and exceptional customer service skills.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced knowledge of PC applications, software, and database management.
- Strong command of English grammar and punctuation.
- Must attend all required coursework assigned by management.
Preferred Qualifications
- CHAA Certification from the National Association of Healthcare Access.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
Work Environment
This role may require lifting up to 50 lbs. The work location is onsite.
Pay
$15.00–$22.75 hourly
