The Auraria Campus, located in downtown Denver, serves 38,000 students and approximately 5,000 faculty and staff across the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Denver.

About the role

This position performs journeyman-level painting, taping, and protective coatings on equipment, masonry, wood, and both interior and exterior surfaces. The role involves coordinating repair and enhancement tasks to maintain quality standards across campus facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prioritize daily work orders through the TMA system.
  • Perform skilled painting and maintenance repairs on campus buildings, surfaces, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Prepare surfaces and apply various finishes using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Complete painting projects for existing facilities, remodels, and new construction.
  • Use hand and power tools, ladders, and scaffolding to safely perform assigned work.
  • Coordinate facility maintenance activities with the Paint Shop Supervisor.
  • Plan and schedule painting projects to minimize disruptions to campus operations.
  • Communicate with affected customers and departments to coordinate work schedules and ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Prepare purchase requests for paint, materials, and services.
  • Take delivery of scheduled jobs around campus activities and classroom schedules.
  • Perform assigned maintenance and support duties as directed by supervisors and leadership.
  • Assist with snow removal, emergency cleanups, and Paint Shop operations as needed.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency call-back requests and urgent maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing skilled painting, building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a closely related trade involving surface preparation, application of finishes, and repair of interior and exterior building surfaces.
  • OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship training, and/or experience in painting, construction, facilities maintenance, or a related trade equal to two (2) years.
  • Must possess a valid unencumbered Colorado driver’s license at the time of application.
  • Must be a resident of the state of Colorado.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must pass a physical examination conducted by a licensed health care provider to determine the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
