Audiology Extern (Gonzales, LA)

This position is designed for an Audiology Extern to complete university and ASHA clinical practice requirements for the Au.D. Degree. The Extern will treat and fit patients following the All American Hearing (AAH) Patient Journey, gaining practical experience in hearing aid fittings, service/repairs, sales, audiologic assessment, patient counseling, and aural rehabilitation. Responsibilities may also include assessment of tinnitus, balance disorders, and pediatric services. Externs will be trained to provide remote services through AAH's TeleHear program.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the Patient Journey Experience is the top priority, ensuring patient comfort and attentiveness to their requests and concerns.
• Conduct patient diagnostics, including pure tone and speech audiometry, immitance testing, tinnitus evaluations, otoacoustic emissions testing, and vestibular evaluations.
• Explain the hearing testing process and administer tests in accordance with AAH clinical protocol and applicable laws.
• Analyze and interpret test results, recommend solutions, and refer to physicians or other professionals as needed.
• Review and discuss diagnostic findings and recommendations with a Preceptor, ensuring audiograms and test forms are reviewed and cosigned.
• Conduct fittings of hearing aids and accessories, consulting with Preceptor, Education and Training Staff, TeleHear Staff, or Manufacturers' Representatives on difficult fittings.
• Perform sales of hearing aids and accessories according to AAH sales protocol, including trial fittings, recommending appropriate technology, taking ear impressions, and quoting prices.
• Counsel patients on payment, finance options, warranties, and obtain patient signatures on Purchase Agreements, collecting a minimum 50% deposit at the time of sale.
• Verify fit and performance of aids at fitting, demonstrate use and care, explain follow-up processes, and set follow-up appointments.
• Write and enter SOAP notes in Hearing Fusion, have them reviewed and cosigned by the Preceptor, and follow up with patients within 48 hours.
• Assist with new and retention marketing efforts, maintain patient records, clinical equipment, tools, and office appearance.
• Assist with compliance for OSHA Infection Control, HIPAA, state and local business licensing regulations, and maintain insurance credentialing.
• Attend meetings (travel required), create calendars for each location, and provide timely data for insurance billing.
• Work collaboratively with local, regional, and national staff to ensure a successful patient journey experience.
• Maintain highest ethical standards as outlined in the AAH employee handbook and support corporate health and safety objectives.

Requirements

• Current enrollment and good standing in an accredited Audiology graduate program; eligible for Externship year per university requirements.
• Obtain Audiology and Dispensing Temporary Licensure in the state of employment, if required by applicable state law.
• Minimum one year of clinical practice experience.
• Ability to learn and use software systems including Hearing Fusion, NOAH, and Inspire OS.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

AAH will cover temporary license fees, necessary study materials, and travel arrangements.
