Attorney IV - District Attorney's Office

About the role

This is an advanced professional legal and supervisory position performing legal services as a criminal prosecutor in the office of the District Attorney. Work involves prosecuting cases and supervising a group of subordinate professional employees. This position includes assisting law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations and charging decisions, as well as prosecuting cases at all levels of the criminal system from Magisterial District Judge to Appellate level disposition. Trials before a jury or a judge are expected. This role is differentiated by its responsibility to supervise and mentor less experienced prosecutors.

Responsibilities

• Performs legal research and prepares cases for trial or non-trial disposition as deemed appropriate.
• Prepares, drafts, reviews, revises, and approves search warrants, arrest warrants, motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Works with law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations to guide and assist the ongoing investigation.
• Prepares and presents witnesses and evidence to a county-wide Grand Jury.
• Evaluates criminal cases for appropriate disposition and reviews dispositions proposed by subordinate attorneys in the office.
• Prepares and presents misdemeanor and felony cases for jury trial.
• Supervises, mentors, advises, and assists subordinate attorneys as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Attorney IV has supervisory responsibility for approximately 3-6 direct reports.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.).
• Member in good standing of the PA Bar.
• At least 5 years of experience as a trial attorney, including jury and non-jury trials.
