Full-time Attorney-Adviser (Labor) position with the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the 88th Air Base Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB, Fairborn, OH. Recruitment, relocation costs, or other incentives may be available. Situational telework may be offered.

About the role

You will serve as a senior litigation attorney in all complex cases before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA), Federal District and appellate courts, arising primarily from events occurring on, or relating to present/former employees of Wright-Patterson AFB.

Provide counsel on labor management relations, employee discipline, workplace accommodations, and other civilian personnel-related issues. Represent the Air Force in hearings and appeals before tribunals.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
  • Currently licensed as an attorney in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are authorized and will be paid in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) and Air Force regulations.
  • Mobility is a condition of employment; the employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Work may occasionally require travel from the normal duty station on military and commercial aircraft.
  • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Expert knowledge of federal personnel and labor law, including statutes, federal anti-discrimination and labor law regulations, DoD Directives, Air Force Instructions and Policy Directives, and relevant case law.
  • Knowledge of modern legal practices and research resources, including administrative databases and Westlaw.
  • Substantial litigation experience before the MSPB, EEOC, FLRA, other administrative adjudicative bodies, and/or federal courts.
  • Skilled in effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to mentor, assist, and train less experienced attorneys, commanders, managers, and personnel specialists in evaluating complex legal issues relating to agency personnel and policies.
