ATTENDING PHYSICIAN 7, BILINGUAL - PSYCHIATRY

About the role

The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessment and management of patients with co-morbid medical disease and mental illness. They provide initial psychiatric consultations, ongoing medication management, and direct patient care in the Ambulatory Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. They also educate patients, students, medical residents, and clinic staff about mental health screening and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Provides general psychiatric assessment to referred patients in the Ambulatory Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic.
• Provides ongoing medication management to these patients.
• Provides direct patient care to medically ill patients in the Ambulatory Outpatient Clinic to ensure safety, evaluate need for further hospitalization, and provide appropriate pharmacotherapy.
• Documents all encounters with patients in medical records and communicates diagnoses and treatment recommendations to appropriate medical staff.
• Reports any cases of abuse or neglect in accordance with State of Illinois Law and CCH Policies.
• Refers patients to appropriate psychiatric, medical, and social services.
• Maintains active licensure with the State of Illinois, active credentials with Cook County Health, and active board certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
• Engages in Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation within the Department.
• Attends required meetings, participates in assigned committees, and completes routine duties (on-call duties) assigned.
• Participates in necessary peer review and quality assurance activities.
• Provides periods of coverage for other psychiatrists in different settings within the system (primarily in the Stroger inpatient and emergency settings), as needed.

Qualifications

• Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalent.
• Licensed as a Physician and Surgeon in the State of Illinois prior to starting employment.
• Board Certification in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or Board Eligible by the ABPN and must obtain Board Certification within two (2) years of starting this employment.
• Completion of accredited General Psychiatry Residency Program.
• Bilingual English/Spanish (Bilingual testing is required).
• Prior experience with Medication Assisted Treatment.
• Prior experience in Telepsychiatry.
• Prior experience in Addiction Medicine.

Skills

• Specific knowledge and/or experience with gender, age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, SES, substance abuse and medical issues of the treatment population served.
• Knowledge of all applicable departmental, Cook County, state, and federal regulations regarding patient care.
• Skills in teaching and supervising psychology trainees in psychiatric assessment, psychotherapeutic methods, and psychological testing.
• Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills to manage large volume of patients and referrals.
• Ability to assess information, apply critical thinking to determine course of action, and relay this information to patients, families, and clinical staff.
• Ability to provide clear and concise documentation regarding patients and to maintain this information in a confidential manner.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all staff, trainees, and patients at all times.
• Ability to physically perform in terms of physical movements, vision, hearing, and speech.
• Ability to work independently, be able to prioritize, and manage time.
• Willingness to provide psychiatric consultation and care to all Cook County Health & Hospitals System sites, including Stroger Hospital, Oak Forest Hospital, and Provident Hospital campuses.
• Willingness and ability to provide brief periods of coverage for other psychiatrists in different settings within the system (primarily in the Stroger inpatient and emergency settings).
