Responsibilities
- Prevent athletic injuries through orthopedic screening, individual exercise programs for athletes with pre-existing conditions, participation in equipment fitting for football and ice hockey, and assisting coaches in developing year-round conditioning programs.
- Recognize and evaluate athletic injuries.
- Provide medical coverage for home contests and daily practices.
- Coordinate emergency medical procedures for all teams at all locations and emergency medical services as needed.
- Follow the prescribed treatment of the team physician or licensed physician.
- Manage, treat, and determine the disposition of athletic injuries by providing injury evaluations before and after practices and referring athletes to appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Provide rehabilitation for athletic injuries when appropriate, including rehabilitation for mild to moderate injuries as prescribed by the team or licensed physician.
- Conduct strength, range of motion, and functional testing for injured athletes to ensure readiness to return to their sport.
- Maintain data and complete necessary reports, including physical forms, injury and progress reports, insurance forms for athletes with medical referrals, daily injury report lists with recommendations, and supply and equipment inventories.
- Organize pre-season physicals for all prospective candidates.
- Keep parents, coaches, and the athletic director informed of athletes' progress in rehabilitation.
- Provide appropriate education for athletes, coaching staff, parents, and others as required.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Massachusetts Licensed Athletic Trainer
- NATA Certified Athletic Trainer
Schedule
Work schedule begins on the first day of football equipment fitting (approximately the third week of August) and ends one week after the final spring contest for final inventory and record keeping.
