Athletics: Assistant Coach - High School 26/27 SY
Responsibilities
- Coaches the designated sport under the direction of the Head Coach
- Affords assistance to the Varsity team
- Coaches the JV (2nd) and/or JVC (3rd) team
- Provides guidance, instruction and experience to enhance students' personal, physical and social growth and development
Requirements
- High school graduate or completed a GED program
- One year of coaching and/or participation in the designated sport
- Successful completion of WIAA Coaches Requirements
- At least 19 years of age
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic rules, strategies, coaching techniques and skills of the designated sport
- Effective behavior management techniques, team dynamics and group learning
- Effective communication, organizing activities and giving instructions
- Ability in relating to students, staff, administration and the public in a multi-ethnic environment
- To be fair and consistent when working with students
- Maintain accurate records and supervise fundraising activities
Skills
- Knowledgeable about current sport knowledge and coaching techniques in designated sport
- Keeps up-to-date with WIAA and Metro rules, regulations and bylaws
- Attends Varsity contests as requested and provides support for the Head Coach in decision making and management of assigned sports events
- Assists the Head Coach in managing District-owned equipment, maintaining records, issuing athletic awards and other functions associated with promotion and management of the designated sport program
- Attends meetings and clinics as required by the Athletic Department
Benefits
Compensation: $21.30 per hour
The budget for coaching hours is in alignment with the current Essential Functions.
Works with stamina and endurance; requires physical exertion associated with demonstrating techniques; required to travel between sites.
Education: High school graduate or completed a GED program. Successful completion of WIAA Coaches Requirements; must be at least 19 years of age.
Certificates & Licenses: Valid State of Washington Driver's License. Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate. Valid "hands on" First Aid and CPR Certification; SPS Adult Sexual Misconduct Class. Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Sick leave accrual: 1:40 per the Washington Paid Sick Leave law.
Health benefits: Not eligible under conditions of the School Employees Benefits Board through the state of Washington.

Fingerprinting: The cost of fingerprints as well as necessary first and CPR certification falls under the responsibility of the volunteer/applicant.
Email Utilization: Utilization and management of SPS district email is required. Important communication is delivered via district email and lack of utilization and missed messages may result in lack of compliance and potential termination of employment.
Clearance: New coaches including current SPS employees of all designations must be formally cleared by Athletics and the HR dept. before reporting to work with students in any coaching capacity.
