About the role

This position administers athletic training services in a community or clinic setting under the supervision of a supervising physician. Responsibilities include supporting Orthopedic Surgeons or Sports Medicine Physicians by providing athletic training in the physician practice. Services encompass school screenings, injury prevention programs, athletic consults, injury assessment, treatment, and case management of injured athletes or clients undergoing rehabilitation. The role frequently involves attending practices, games, and community athletic events for area schools and athletic clubs.

This position may also provide post-operative wound care, suture removal, dressing changes, and patient education as directed by the attending physician.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates musculoskeletal injuries and develops treatment and exercise plans within the scope of athletic training practice.
• Re-evaluates treatment plans as needed to ensure maximum patient benefit.
• Assists providers with clinical examinations, including obtaining medical history and vitals, preparing injections, and taking necessary measurements.
• Instructs patients in pre- and post-operative care, proper care of casts and splints, and crutch training.
• Implements individualized therapeutic interventions and monitors responses to therapy to ensure client safety.
• Reports progress and medical changes to referring physicians or appropriate medical providers.
• Educates clients, families, and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and exercise programs.
• Provides evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology consistent with athletic training clinical competencies as defined by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), the Board of Certification (BOC), and applicable state boards.
• May perform first and second assist functions during procedures and surgeries under direct supervision of a surgeon if candidate possesses current NBCOT certification or is training for the OTC license.
• Applies knowledge of operating room aseptic techniques, including setting up proper draping and surgical fields.
• Positions and prepares patients for orthopedic surgical procedures, including fracture table setup, patient positioning, and specialized orthopedic instrumentation.
• Applies, adjusts, and removes casts, splints, immobilization devices, and traction under physician direction.
• Removes sutures, staples, pins, and wires; changes dressings and cares for wounds.
• Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices.
• Educates patients about various orthopedic conditions.
• May assist physicians in the reduction of fractures and dislocations.
• Assists with and performs the removal of orthopedic hardware and wound closure.
• Interprets most types of orthopedic fractures and dislocations on x-ray films.
• Develops reference and referral resources for patients and families to expedite access to care.
• Incorporates best practices and responds to emerging trends to enhance clinical care, programs, or services.
• Develops effective tools to measure performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited university training program.
• Current Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer certification.
• Valid athletic trainer license issued in the state of practice, if applicable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Three years of experience in athletic training practices and competencies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers.
• Strong interpersonal communication and human relation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
• Current certification as an Orthopedic Technologist by the National Board of Certification for Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) or Orthopedic Specialty Certified by the BOC.

Schedule

Shifts vary, Monday through Saturday, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This is a Registry/Per Diem position with no guaranteed hours and no medical benefits package offered. The role involves floating between locations in Greeley, Kersey, or Windsor.

Pay

Estimated pay range: $27.78 - $46.20 per hour. Actual pay determined at offer will be based on years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location, along with a review of current employees in similar roles to ensure pay equity.
