Responsibilities

• Provide athletic training services for USA Health clinics under the direction of a designated physician.
• Evaluate and treat medical and musculoskeletal pathology patients consistent with athletic training clinical competencies as defined by the BOC and the State of Alabama Athletic Training Credentialing Board.
• Perform clinic pre-visit planning, coordination of care, new patient triage, surgical case organization, surgical circulation, and surgical first assist as assigned by the Program Manager.
• Obtain medical history for each patient, including history of injury or condition, primary complaint, pain level assessment, past medical history, and impact on quality of life.
• Perform physical examinations, including range of motion testing, strength/manual muscle testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and other special tests as needed.
• Order diagnostic studies or referrals (e.g., radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, ultrasounds) under the direction of the attending physician.
• Provide initial rehabilitation exercises, instruction, demonstration, and feedback on patient performance as directed by the attending physician.
• Fit patients with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other durable medical equipment, and educate patients on appropriate use.
• Remove sutures or staples and provide dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician.
• Assist the physician in preparing patients for injections performed by the attending physician.
• Schedule patient follow-up appointments.
• Complete all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements.
• Adhere to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
• Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work scheduled hours and overtime as required.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution and 2 years of related experience (required).
• Master's Degree in healthcare, athletic training, education, or business (preferred).
• Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers and licensure as an Athletic Trainer with the state of Alabama (required upon hire).
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
