About the role

The Athletic Trainer in Sports Medicine, Section of Orthopaedic Surgery assists the physicians in coordinating and linking the physician with the patients. Performs duties related to patient care, including weighing, measuring, and assessing patient vital signs; recording reasons for patient visits; assisting with undressing, dressing, and mobility; and stocking/cleaning assigned areas.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial patient assessments and screens; documents referral sources; collects emergency and caregiver information.
  • Develops and distributes ongoing patient education information.
  • Provides bracing, orthotic fabrication and applications, casting, suture removal, and post-operative wound assessment and care.
  • Prepares and ensures accuracy of daily clinic schedules.
  • Answers phone calls and emails; files and organizes patient and administrative paperwork.
  • Communicates with patients in person and by telephone with courtesy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Performs patient assessments during post-operative phases and provides education on home care plans for pain management, ADLs, mobility, and exercise.
  • Carries out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the physician, including assisting in the surgical suite with patient positioning, prepping, and draping.
  • Reviews and approves request forms; confirms clinic appointments and ensures smooth daily clinic operations.
  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an Athletic Training program.
  • Licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Illinois.
  • BLS Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous orthopedic experience.
  • 2 years of Athletic Training experience.

Schedule

Full-time (1.0 FTE), days – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Pay

The pay range reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for the position, based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation at hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, including internal equity.
