Job Summary
Affords assistance in managing patient/athlete visits within the clinic, fulfilling a variety of clinical responsibilities under the guidance of physicians. Engages in community outreach and conducts presentations on Athletic Training topics. Oversees and mentors Student Athletic Trainers and Intern Athletic Trainers. Provides athletic training services at sporting events and community events.
Essential Functions

- Interacts with patients and others involved in the patient/athlete's care to implement an interdisciplinary treatment approach for coordinated quality care.
- Obtains initial patient history, vital signs, and/or follow-up status and presents to the physician for their examination of the patient/athlete.
- Requests and organizes ancillary studies (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, lab work, etc.) and presents them for review.
- Organizes and disburses patient lab work or other office tests as directed.
- Provides patient instruction upon discharge for physical therapy, further studies, follow-up appointments, and directs patients as they leave the clinic.
- Teaches, counsels, and communicates with patients, athletes, their families, coaches, and others to achieve desired outcomes.
- Interacts with patients, athletes, coaches, families, and colleagues to enlist cooperation in establishing programs for the safe return to play of athletes or activities of patients.
- Supports and provides educational material to athletes, coaches, parents, and the community at large on injury management and prevention.
- Coordinates and presents at local/state/regional levels on Athletic Training topics.
- Supports and provides educational material to athletes, coaches, parents, and the community at large on injury management and prevention.
- Calls MD, medical assistants, parents, coaches, Coordinator of Sports Medicine, Radiology, etc., to ensure ambulatory services are performed through Prisma Health as much as possible.
- Oversees and delegates tasks to Student Athletic Trainers and/or Intern Athletic Trainers. Mentors new staff members and serves as a consultant for new staff, as needed.
- Responsible for basic daily and weekly maintenance, general cleanliness, and upkeep of stock in rooms.
- Prepares exam rooms for patient visits and empties and disposes of biohazard waste and sharps containers as directed.
- Assists with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supervises and manages tasks delegated to Student Athletic Trainers and Intern Athletic Trainers.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or related field preferred.
- Experience: No experience required.
- Certifications, Registrations, Licenses: Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the state the team member is working.
