About the role

The Athletic Trainer is a member of the Sports Medicine outreach team, responsible for evaluations, treatment, rehabilitation, and medical referral to a consultant for athletes and individuals associated with athletic programs. They report directly to the Director of the LA Sports Medicine Alliance.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Develops training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance on the play area.
  • Accurately evaluates and assesses injuries to ensure proper treatment if needed.
  • Carries out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician.
  • Covers assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the program manager.
  • Communicates with parents, athletic coaches, etc., regarding recommendations for handling aspects of care relating to athletic injuries.

Requirements

  • A degree in Athletic Training from an institution accredited by CAATE.
  • NATA Certified and Louisiana licensure.
  • 1-2 years of experience in an athletic training setting preferred.
  • CPR certified, Current Louisiana Athletic Trainer license, and Annual CEU requirement.
  • Valid driver's license.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the ability to read, write, and speak intelligible English, with strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills. They must be detail-oriented, emotionally stable, and mature, with the ability to adapt to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

The Athletic Trainer must be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weights/heights, push carts with athletic equipment, and carry water coolers and athletic training kits up to 50 pounds. They must be able to stand for long periods, have good mobility skills, and be able to walk long distances.
