About the role
In this role, the clinical athletic trainer works under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician while reporting to the clinic manager. The ATC assists staff providers, residents, and medical students with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks using a team-based approach.
Responsibilities
- Performs a thorough medical history on each patient, including review of medications, allergies, and impact on quality of life.
- Performs an appropriate physical examination on each patient, including range of motion testing, strength testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and special tests as needed.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic studies under the direction of a physician, including radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, rehabilitation referrals, and physician referrals.
- Provides patient education specific to individual needs, including exercise instruction, demonstration, and answering questions regarding treatment plans, surgery, rehabilitation, and future care.
- Prepares patients for treatment/procedures in a timely manner and performs treatments, procedures, casting, and bracing according to established guidelines.
- Prepares and assists the physician with injection procedures performed in the office.
- Follows OSHA guidelines regarding body substance isolation and disposal of sharps.
- Documents accurately and timely in the patient's record all treatments/procedures performed and initials documentation.
- Performs a wide variety of direct technical care functions and delivers athletic training services for orthopedics and sports medicine.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Essential).
- One year of experience (Essential).
- National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (Essential).
- Basic Life Support certification (Essential).
