Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) - Part Time

About the role
This part-time, temporary Athletic Trainer (ATC) provides on-site care for routine and emergent injuries sustained during Club Sports events. The role is a vital part of the department’s emergency action plan, working with the Competitive Sports Staff to ensure a reasonably safe environment for participants, spectators, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site care and management of injuries, including prevention, evaluation, and treatment (85% of role).
- Deliver emergency medical care for conditions such as cardiac arrest, commotio cordis, cervical spine injury, traumatic brain injury, heat stroke, and exertional sickling.
- Monitor and assess environmental factors that may impact participant safety.
- Communicate with players, coaches, and staff regarding injury status and return-to-play decisions.
- Provide rehabilitation, treatment, and referral recommendations as needed.
- Determine participant fitness for returning to play, including evaluating potential concussions.
- Exhibit strong leadership and communication to mitigate risks when denying participation or modifying play schedules.
- Complete all required documentation regarding injury care (15% of role).
- Communicate with the supervising physician about care practices and protocols.
- Monitor medical supply inventory and communicate replacement needs.
- Assist in developing care protocols in conjunction with the supervising physician.
Requirements
- North Carolina Athletic Trainer Licensure.
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a CAATE-accredited program.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and flexible environment.
- Prior experience working in an impact sports environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in athletic training, kinesiology, or a related field.
Pay
$23.94/hour.
Schedule
Part-time, temporary position beginning early August 2025. Hours vary based on sport club competitions and may include nights and weekends. Position spans 11 months per year.
Physical Effort & Work Environment
- Physical Effort: Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, squatting, and visual inspection; occasional hand movement (repetitive motions, grasping, holding), finger dexterity, lifting (0–60 lbs.), pushing/pulling, climbing stairs, crawling, and reaching.
- Work Environment: Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions; occasional night/dark environments and indoor settings.
