Position
Souhegan High School is seeking an Athletic Trainer to support student-athletes.
Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (Master's Degree preferred)
- Board of Certification (BOC) certification
- Current state licensure in accordance with the State of New Hampshire Athletic Trainers Governing Board
- CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care certification
- Knowledge of athletic training practices, injury prevention, and rehabilitation
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, NHIAA guidelines, and safety regulations
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations
- Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, school nurses, administrators, and outside medical providers
- Maintains high levels of professionalism
Evaluation
Performance of position responsibilities will be evaluated annually in accordance with the approved administrative procedure for staff evaluation.
Core Responsibilities
- Student Health & Injury Management:
- Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
- Develop, implement, and modify rehabilitation programs to support return to pre-injury status
- Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer athletes to appropriate medical professionals when necessary
- Make and support return-to-play decisions in alignment with best practices and established protocols
- Provide emergency care, first aid, and triage, ensuring readiness of equipment and procedures
- Injury Prevention & Education:
- Assist coaches with the design and implementation of injury prevention programs
- Educate athletes on injury prevention, conditioning, nutrition, and safe practices
- ID and address risk factors that may impact athlete safety and performance
- Provide taping, bracing, and other preventative supports
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Serve as a primary point of communication between athletes, families, coaches, school personnel, and medical providers
- Maintain consistent and clear communication regarding injuries, treatment plans, and return-to-play status
- Collaborate with coaches, the Athletic Director, and school staff to support student-athlete well-being
- Program Management & Compliance:
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive athletic training program for all sports
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including injury reports, treatment logs, rehabilitation progress, referrals, and required documentation
- Ensure compliance with school policies, NHIAA regulations, and applicable laws
- Administer ImPact testing and coordinate with appropriate medical professionals on concussion protocols
- Cookordinate and support required athletic physicals
- Operations & Equipment:
- Oversee ordering, inventory, and maintenance of athletic training supplies and equipment

- Support equipment and uniform inventory processes between seasons as needed
- Event & Practice Coverage:
- Provide coverage for home events and practices throughout the athletic seasons, including postseason play
- Be available before practices and competitions for injury evaluation and treatment
- Coordinate coverage schedules and service locations in collaboration with the Athletic Director
- Prioritize care across multiple teams, locations, and events occurring simultaneously
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a high level of reliability
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and maintain required certifications
- Attend and participate in required meetings and events
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal
Schedule Expectations
The Athletic Trainer must be available Monday through Friday with flexible hours to ensure coverage of practices and competitions. Weekend coverage is required for scheduled events.
