About the role
The Athletic Trainer serves as a key member of the school district coaching staff, providing clinically competent treatment programs for all assigned student-athletes and documenting care according to current standards. They represent the school district within the community and are expected to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of injury, illness, or disability of student-athletes and/or patient population served and clinical competency and performance in the assessment, treatment strategies, and intervention programs;
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Show appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, family, staff, and others;
- Be a good team member by demonstrating flexibility, willingness to assist different departmental service areas, showing respect and cooperation with all departments and individuals;
- Provide professional education to students, staff, and the public;
- Support the school district and athletic department mission and core values;
- Provide student-athlete and/or patient care daily: meet productivity standards per clinical area;
- Service during traditional practice time, 3:00 - 6:00 weekdays;
- Service during all pre-season football practices;
- Service during all "home" events;
- Service at all football games, home and away;
- Monitor district "heat" practice plan;
- Report daily injuries;
- Track injuries (diagnosis, treatment, return to play);
- Teach CPR and First Aid;
- Service during post-season events hosted at district schools;
Additional Duties
Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Equipment
This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel
In and out of district travel may be required.
Physical And Mental Demands
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job;
- Occasional lifting and moving of up to 100 pounds;
- Occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions;
- Exposure to mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration;
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information;
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing;
- Make decisions on recurring assignments;
- Display a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality;
- Conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance;
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them;
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in sports medicine related field from four year college or university;
- Current Licensure with Kansas State board of Healing Arts;
- FLSA Status: Exempt;
