Athletic Groundskeeper H-108
This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position limited to 1,500 hours in a 365-day period and does not entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits. The selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program.
About the Role
The Athletic Groundskeeper will maintain athletic and campus turf/landscape areas while ensuring a safe workplace with required training for equipment operation. This position coordinates daily tasks with supervisors and ensures assigned equipment is safely and efficiently used and maintained.

Additionally, Grounds provides Christopher Newport University’s students with an outstanding intercollegiate Division III Athletics facility that emphasizes safety, provides aesthetic appearance and value, and is environmentally responsible and economically feasible.
Responsibilities
- Maintain athletic and campus turf/landscape areas.
- Coordinate daily tasks with supervisors.
- Ensure safe and efficient use and maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Operate grounds maintenance equipment with required training.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education and experience.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and equipment use.
- Basic writing and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- VDACS Registered Technician license (preferred).
- Basic experience in grounds maintenance.
- Experience maintaining an athletic field or high-end turf grass system (preferred).

Pay
