Athletic Counselor, Part-Time

About the role

This part-time position is for an Athletic Counselor, with assignments not to exceed 60% (24 hours per week). The role supports current and anticipated needs in General Counseling, Dual Enrollment & Outreach, the Welcome Center, and other special population programs. Work schedule varies: Monday–Thursday 8:00 AM–7:00 PM, Friday 8:00 AM–2:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Advise and counsel student athletes about certificates, associate degrees, and transfer requirements.
• Teach courses as assigned during day, evening, weekend, or online sessions.
• Demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth in the field of teaching and counseling.
• Fulfill other professional responsibilities and activities expected of community college faculty as described by Board Policies and the California Education Code.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling.
• OR a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields plus a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), pursuant to Title 5, Section 53410.1.
• OR a valid California Community College Counselor Credential.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Qualifications

Equivalencies: A Master’s degree in education with an emphasis in counseling that includes a minimum of 24 graduate-level units in counseling courses and a graduate-level counseling practicum or internship in a community college setting.

Foreign Degrees: Any degree from outside the United States (including Canada and Great Britain) must be evaluated by an approved evaluation service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
