About the role

Mongabay, a leading environmental science and conservation news organisation, is seeking a Managing Editor (Africa) to lead and shape high-impact environmental journalism across the African continent. This full-time role involves supervising a team of editors and reporters, commissioning and editing original stories, managing editorial projects, and strengthening partnerships with media organisations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of editors and reporters
• Commission and edit original stories
• Manage editorial projects
• Strengthen partnerships with media organisations
• Ensure the delivery of accurate, fact-based, and timely reporting

Requirements

• Eight or more years of experience working with a news outlet in an editor position
• Ability to coordinate with colleagues working in a diversity of time zones (strongly preferred)

While there is no required location for this position, remote coordination across time zones is essential.
