ASW AMFT APCC Case Manager and Mental Health Therapist Clinician

About the role

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) is a leading nonprofit dedicated to improving mental health services, advocacy, and training. With over 19,000 low-income and no-income individuals served annually, MHALA focuses on integrated services in mental and physical healthcare, homelessness, supported employment, and wellness. The agency also offers training programs for the behavioral health workforce and the broader community.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals in finding and accessing requested services through intensive case management.
• Provide licensed mental and/or physical health services to members as needed.
• Perform assessments and approve documentation based on the psychosocial rehabilitation model.
• Coach, counsel, mentor, instruct, train, provide feedback, and reinforce positive behaviors for members.
• Engage members in various settings, such as residences, hospitals, and appointments.
• Provide individual and group therapy.
• Participate in staff and community meetings and contribute to program operations.
• Support staff in maintaining program documentation standards and document in EHR systems.
• Complete and maintain records for program compliance and accountability.
• Provide clinical guidance for the multi-disciplinary team and supervise interns.

Requirements

• Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) or Masters in Counseling (MA/MS) and registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as ASW/AMFT/APCC.
• Clinical experience in mental health, disabled, and/or underserved populations.
• Willingness to become LPS designated to write 5150 holds for members.
• Ability to maintain an empathetic view and navigate community resources, housing, and social security systems.
• Knowledge of computer applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Valid CPR certificate preferred.
• Flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, and participation in after-hours on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• Current class C driver’s license, vehicle for transportation, valid auto insurance, and the ability to be insured by MHALA’s liability insurance.
• TB clearance and annual re-testing.

Skills

• Knowledge of the harm reduction philosophy and effective motivational interviewing.
• Ability to mediate and advocate for members to obtain services.

• $34.00 - $34.50 per hour, with actual compensation determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
