About the Role

The Assured Software and Information Division (ASID) within the Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Laboratory (CIPHER) seeks a Student Assistant for Fall 2026 with an interest in cybersecurity. ASID focuses on software assurance, ML/AI algorithm security, and quantitative methods. Potential projects include data science, AI/ML foundations and applications, information theory, malware analysis, natural language processing, programming language and compiler theory, and software analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research projects in software assurance, AI/ML security, and quantitative methods.
  • Work on diverse cyber problems using skills in data science, AI/ML, and software analysis.
  • Engage in coding and experimental work using Python, TensorFlow, Keras, Sklearn, Pytorch, Ghidra, and IDA Pro.
  • Participate in software reverse engineering and analysis tasks.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with their university during working semesters.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with Python, machine learning packages like TensorFlow, Keras, Sklearn, or Pytorch, software reverse engineering experience with Ghidra or IDA Pro, and experience with software analysis tools/libraries.
  • Hours per week: 10-20 hours.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to research contracts with the U.S. federal government.
  • No clearance type required.
