About the role

The Assumed Reinsurance Underwriter - International Treaty is responsible for underwriting and managing business in the international treaty channel of UFG's Assumed Reinsurance portfolio. The role involves participating in the fall renewal cycle, focusing on diversification, profitability, and exposure control, particularly in APAC and EMEA.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite international treaty business (and selected retrocession) in line with UFG guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Lead the underwriting process for individual treaty submissions, conducting analysis and due diligence.
  • Support other reinsurance business, including sourcing, underwriting, and executing MGA/MGU business, financial lines reinsurance, and Funds at Lloyd’s (FAL) investments.
  • Assist in the financial accounting for the reinsurance book, working with the accounting department to ensure proper accounting.
  • Contribute to the strategic plan for growing the reinsurance book, supporting the annual planning process with specific focus on the P&C treaty channel.
  • Develop and maintain broker and cedent relationships, serving as the consistent point of contact for brokers and cedents in key regions, including Asia, through market visits, conferences, and periodic international travel.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of market trends, perils, regulatory changes, and structural developments across target territories, and communicate insights internally.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and finance teams to ensure appropriate pricing, wording, and portfolio steering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field. A graduate degree in related field is preferred.
  • Relevant designations in Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS or FCAS) are preferred.
  • 5 to 15 years of reinsurance underwriting or closely related experience, with international treaty background preferred.
  • Strong subject matter exposure and leadership potential, knowledge of portfolio management, insurance industry products, services, and business practices, and experience in communicating underwriting analysis to various groups, including non-technical and executive audiences.

  • Knowledge and understanding of insurance industry products, services, and business practices.
  • Experience in commercial lines insurance.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate underwriting analysis effectively to various stakeholders.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $220,000 annually, with individual pay determined based on relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, internal equity, and market data. UFG Insurance is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
