About the Role

Function as an integral part of the Clinical office staff where Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties. You will be responsible for obtaining intake information for a specific patient population, performing tasks and treatments as delegated by licensed personnel, and providing direct patient care as required. This role includes scheduling tests and procedures ordered by the physician and providing limited patient education and instructions associated with these tests and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Graduate of a medical assistant program (minimum required).
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant from AAMA, NHA, NCCT, NAHP, ARMA, or AMT.
  • Seven to eleven months of equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in population-appropriate communication and has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Provides clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment and involves family/guardian in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Assists in the implementation of age-appropriate care for specific patient populations, including provision of direct patient care as part of the clinical team.
  • Obtains vital signs, EKGs, laboratory specimens, and other necessary information for proper patient evaluation, adhering to universal precautions.
  • Assists the provider in documenting notes, orders, and prescriptions by setting them up in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Prepares and maintains the clinic area, including cleaning and stocking examination rooms, setting up and securing computer equipment, and maintaining diagnostic equipment.
  • Returns routine patient telephone calls such as prescription refills or pre-certification for medication, with appropriate and timely documentation.
  • Coordinates ancillary services such as diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures/admissions, additional patient visits, and acquisition of pertinent medical records.
  • Maintains a positive, professional, and cooperative demeanor in all interactions with patients, staff, physicians, and management.
  • Ensures a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to legal responsibilities and requirements of the medical assistant role.
  • Seeks knowledge and understanding of quality measures and patient experience.

Administrative Duties

  • Using computer applications.
  • Answering telephones.
  • Greeting patients.
  • Updating and filing patient medical records.
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms.
  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services.
  • Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping.
