Asst. Coordinator of Disease intervention

About the Role

The Supervising Public Health Adviser, under the direction of the Coordinator for Disease Intervention Activities for the Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC), will assist in providing advanced public health support to promote the prevention, intervention, and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other communicable diseases. This position reviews patient information, coordinates disease intervention activities, facilitates linkage to care, and supports the delivery of high-quality clinical and partner services.

Responsibilities

  • Assure that disease investigation and intervention activities are complete, timely, and accurately documented in public health information systems like Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and the STI registry MAVEN, while ensuring compliance with confidentiality regulations and mandated reporting.
  • Evaluate and assess weekly and monthly internal health reports, making recommendations to ensure service effectiveness and responsibility fulfillment.
  • Assist and collaborate with colleagues at the Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (BHHS) in developing and revising protocols and guidelines for services offered by Public Health Advisors, supporting both bureaus' objectives.
  • Actively seek out and engage in relevant presentations and training opportunities to strengthen the Bureau’s mission.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and training sessions to enhance program/bureau services and objectives.
  • Assist in overseeing and coordinating disease intervention activities conducted by Public Health Advisors, ensuring timely responses and providing recommendations for staff development or disciplinary actions.
  • Facilitate clear communication among colleagues, both within the agency and externally, to address staff and client needs effectively.
  • Serve as a liaison between New York State providers and New York City Public Health Clinics, ensuring timely follow-up for common clients.
  • Ensure staff receive and meet required training to deliver accurate and up-to-date information and services to clients.
  • Serve as an acting Coordinator for Disease Intervention Activities in their absence.
  • Perform other related duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in a public health program, with one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Or an associate degree with 12 semester credits in health education, health, social, or biological sciences, and four years of experience as described, with one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Or a high school diploma and six years of experience as described, with one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Or a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above.

Additional Notes:

  • Undergraduate college credit may substitute for experience (30 semester credits for one year of experience, with 12 credits in health, social, or biological sciences substituting for an additional six months).
  • All candidates must have a high school diploma and a minimum of two years of experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • This position is open to qualified persons with a disability eligible for the 55-a Program.
