Associate Veterinarian

About the Role
As a doctor with Cara Veterinary, you’ll have the freedom to make the best decisions for your local clients and their pets, supported by the resources needed to provide exceptional care. Pay
- Competitive base salary + commission
- $125,000 - $160,000 yearly base
- Sign-on bonus eligible

Responsibilities
- Patient Management:
- Create recommendations with the patient’s well-being as the first priority.
- Perform examinations, diagnostic tests, medical, surgical, and dental procedures while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.
- Perform medically appropriate euthanasia with compassion.
- Recommend referrals to specialists when beneficial to the prognosis.
- Stay updated through veterinary journals, textbooks, and continuing education seminars.
- Client Management:
- Develop rapport with clients through compassionate communication.
- Determine client needs and wishes, and explain physical examination findings.
- Recommend preventive health care, including vaccines, nutritional products, and protocols.
- Explain diagnostic, medical, and surgical plans, including home care and follow-up.
- Provide written and verbal prognoses and fee estimates.
- Keep clients informed about their pet’s status and diagnostic results.
- Provide telephone consultations and follow-up calls.
- Administrative Management:
- Maintain complete and accurate medical/surgical records using the SOAP format (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan).
- Keep logs updated (surgical, narcotics, radiology, laboratory, etc.).
- Accurately charge clients for all services performed.
- Participate in planning and executing methods to improve service delivery.
- Support marketing and promotional events.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.

- Provide consultation and assist with diagnostic, treatment, and surgical procedures.
- Maintain communication with clients when their pet’s primary veterinarian is unavailable.
- Assist colleagues and foster an educational environment.
- Technicians/Assistants:
- Provide clear directions for drug administration, diagnostic procedures, and patient monitoring.
- Assist and educate technicians in client education, anesthesia, surgical assisting, and dentistry.
- Receptionists:
- Expedite fee estimates, treatment plans, and invoicing.
- Clearly record dispensed medications and supplies.
- Assist in answering client questions and providing basic pet health education.
