Associate Tribal Judge

About the role

An Associate Judge presides over and adjudicates criminal and civil cases within the jurisdiction of the Tribal Court that have been assigned by the Chief Judge.

Requirements

• Member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes
• Resident of the Flathead Reservation
• At least 21 years of age
• High moral character and reputation
• At least four (4) years of direct work experience in a law-related area
• No felony convictions
• No misdemeanor convictions (except for minor traffic violations) within the year preceding appointment
• No pending criminal action at the time of appointment
• Working knowledge of Tribal law, Federal Indian Law, applicable State Law, and general legal principles
