Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings to be used in the manufacturing of new tooling in support of various programs.
  • Create effective and safe designs that are used to manufacture, test, qualify, and transport product.
  • Schedule and run 30/60/90% Design Reviews to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the design cycle.
  • Work with internal customers to conceptualize and design support equipment for new and existing programs.
  • Work closely with other Tool Engineering functions to provide designs on time and within budget.
  • Understand and monitor budget and schedule for own tasks.
  • Review Engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability.

Requirements

This position can be filled at either Level 1 or Level 2 depending on qualifications.

  • Associate Tooling Design Engineer Level 1:
    • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 0 years of experience in the following engineering fields: Mechanical, Design, Tooling, Manufacturing, Die, Product, Mechanical, or similar.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance per company and/or business needs.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access per company and/or business needs.
    • Experience with solid modeling or similar (NX preferred).
    • Experience with manufacturing processes.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience with 2D drawing preparation.
    • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) practice and implementation.
  • Tooling Design Engineer Level 2:
    • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 1 year of experience in the following engineering fields: Mechanical, Design, Tooling, Manufacturing, Die, Product, Mechanical, or similar OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 0 years of experience in the mentioned fields.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance per company and/or business needs.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access per company and/or business needs.
    • Experience with solid modeling or similar (NX preferred).
    • Experience with manufacturing processes.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience with 2D drawing preparation.
    • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) practice and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government clearance.
  • Special Program Access.
  • Demonstrated experience with NX modeling.
  • Structural Analysis experience (FEA and hand calculations).
  • Mechanical Design and Assembly experience.
  • Experience managing small to medium-sized design projects.

Pay

  • Associate Tooling Design Engineer Level 1: $59,900.00 – $89,900.00 per year.
  • Tooling Design Engineer Level 2: $72,100.00 – $108,100.00 per year.

The above salary ranges represent general guidelines. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
