About the Role

We are the Petroleum Products Research Department in the Fuels and Lubricants Division. We perform laboratory testing on an assortment of fuels and lubricants from different types of vehicles and engines. By joining our team, you will receive an additional $500 in your first paycheck, minus taxes.

The objectives of this role are to ensure and improve the quality control, compliance, and efficiency of petroleum products in the automotive industry. You will communicate with lab supervisors and project managers to meet project requirements and deadlines, perform chemical and instrumental analyses on fuels, oils, and other petroleum products using standard test methods and Test Inspection Procedures (TIPs), complete testing safely by following safety practices and Environmental Management and Quality Systems, and support laboratory supply levels while maintaining cleanliness of the lab and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform test analysis in accordance with ASTM, TIP, or laboratory procedures and specifications.
  • Review and document calibration records, chemical expiration dates, and QA values as valid before completing sample analysis.
  • Use various testing instrumentation and equipment, including analytical balances and laboratory glassware such as flasks, cylinders, pipettes, and beakers.
  • Perform all tasks safely and efficiently by adhering to safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Work productively and effectively on multiple tasks, either in a team or individually, with limited direct supervision.
  • Maintain laboratory stock by retrieving supplies from an on-site stockroom and ordering through a purchase requisition.
  • Input received chemicals into a chemical inventory management system, label them properly, and store them in designated chemical cabinets.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; chemistry courses are beneficial.
  • 0-5 years: Experience working in a laboratory and knowledge of basic laboratory practices is preferred but not required.
  • 0-1 years: General computer experience required, with a working knowledge of software including Excel and Word.
  • Must adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Must be available to work shift work and overtime when needed.
  • A valid/clear driver’s license is required.
